Job Description

Latitude AI operates as an independent subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, focusing on automated driving technology for upcoming vehicles. The organization develops an in-house hands-free ADAS platform and builds automated driving systems designed to make travel safer and less stressful.

The Intelligent Systems division handles downstream tasks for onboard vehicle sensors and manages the offboard cloud infrastructure required for machine learning. Within this division, the Scalable ML team builds orchestration, data generation, and distributed training systems that allow machine learning developers to work efficiently with massive datasets.

As a Senior Engineering Manager for Scalable Machine Learning, the selected professional will lead and mentor a team of software engineers while establishing the multi-quarter technical roadmap for training and data infrastructure. This position requires active collaboration across multiple peer groups, including Cloud, Jobs, and ML Platforms, to manage shared infrastructure like GPU quotas, storage, and compute costs. The role suits a technical leader capable of guiding a high-performing engineering group while bridging gaps across adjacent technical organizations without direct reporting lines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor software engineers to foster strong technical standards and continuous skill enhancement for machine learning infrastructure
  • Establish and oversee a multi-quarter technical strategy encompassing data generation, orchestration, and distributed training
  • Represent the Scalable ML team during organization-wide planning and architectural reviews
  • Resolve cross-team infrastructure trade-offs concerning GPU scheduling, quotas, job orchestration, compute expenses, and storage
  • Implement robust MLOps practices covering experiment tracking, artifact management, and automated testing or deployment strategies
  • Form and sustain technical partnerships with peer leaders across HPC, Cloud Platform, Jobs Platform, and ML Platform teams
  • Maintain high reliability standards for team systems and drive cross-team incident root-cause analysis and prevention

Requirements

  • Ten years of total software development experience, including at least five years in a Staff, Principal, or senior technical leadership capacity
  • Extensive background in designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud infrastructure dedicated to machine learning
  • Direct experience navigating cross-team dependencies involving shared compute resources such as multi-tenant clusters and GPU scheduling
  • Demonstrated expertise in optimizing and developing machine learning data pipelines, spanning data management and distributed training
  • Strong proficiency writing high-performance, production-quality Python software
  • Proven capability to align and influence peer teams and leadership without direct authority
  • Track record of successfully guiding complex software initiatives from initial concept through production delivery
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline with 10 years of experience, or a Master degree with 8 years of experience
  • Advanced Master degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field
  • Practical experience utilizing distributed machine learning frameworks and tools including PyTorch, Ray, LakeFS, Dagster, or PyArrow
  • Familiarity with multi-sensor data fusion and processing techniques applied in autonomous driving
  • Knowledge of safety-critical software development principles within robotics or automotive industries
  • Deep comprehension of machine learning concepts, computer vision use cases, and L2 or L3 autonomy challenges
