Job Description
Quantum Motion Technologies is a venture-backed quantum computing scale-up headquartered in London, featuring research origins from UCL and Oxford University. The enterprise focuses on building silicon-based quantum processors designed to transform computational power across medicine, artificial intelligence, and materials modelling. Operating within a multidisciplinary environment, the company brings together professionals in integrated circuit design, software development, quantum theory, and quantum engineering.
The organization seeks a Senior Electrical Characterisation Engineer to join the Process Integration group based in Islington, London. This professional will serve as a link between semiconductor manufacturing and quantum hardware, utilizing electrical testing and large-scale data analysis to evaluate and enhance silicon devices. The position is suited for an analytical specialist who wants to contribute directly to the yield, quality, and scalability of advanced quantum computing architectures within an established R&D team.
Responsibilities
- Manage the electrical characterisation of fabricated silicon devices and build high-throughput screening methods for parameters like channel mobility, gate oxide reliability, and threshold voltage
- Translate electrical data into manufacturing insights to connect patterns and failures to specific foundry steps such as etching, doping, and photolithography
- Design automated test routines and instrument-control workflows using Python for room-temperature and low-temperature wafer probing setups
- Examine large-scale electrical datasets through statistical process control and yield analysis to monitor process drift and defect density
- Partner with semiconductor foundries and process engineers to deliver actionable feedback that optimizes device performance and yield
- Establish calibration protocols, testing standards, and data pipelines to streamline information flow between process integration and quantum engineering groups
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional background in semiconductor device testing, reliability engineering, yield analysis, or electrical characterisation within an IDM, foundry, or R&D setting
- Solid knowledge of silicon CMOS fabrication workflows, semiconductor device physics, and foundry operations
- Practical background using wafer probe stations, semiconductor parameter analysers, and source measure units for DC or RF testing
- Proficiency in Python geared toward automation, instrument control, and automated test execution
- Strong analytical capability to parse large datasets in order to uncover root causes, trends, and anomalies
- Ability to collaborate across hardware, process, and quantum engineering teams
Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field
- Familiarity with quantum device physics including single-electron transistors, quantum dots, or charge-stability mapping
- Experience operating cryogenic electrical characterisation and low-temperature measurement systems
- Background in semiconductor process control, yield enhancement, or statistical analysis
- Familiarity with automated wafer-level testing and high-throughput measurement
- Exposure to advanced or emerging semiconductor technologies
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive salary and share options scheme
- Contributory pension scheme
- Group private medical insurance scheme
- Life assurance
- Cycle-to-work scheme
