Open Function (OpenFn) is seeking a Senior IT Implementation Consultant to join its team on a full-time contractor basis. The organization acts as the primary steward of an open-source platform providing digital public goods for public service automation and artificial intelligence orchestration. Its platform helps governments and non-governmental organizations improve efficiency, connect fragmented systems, and scale public programs in health, humanitarian, and government sectors.
This fully remote role operates primarily within Africa and Europe time zones, with a strong preference for individuals based in Africa. The position reports to the Head of Implementation and involves working closely with a distributed team of integration specialists, solution architects, and consultants across more than 40 countries. The successful candidate will lead major implementations for government ministries and large NGOs, facilitating digital transformation and service delivery.
Daily duties include conducting remote discovery calls, workshops, and consultations with both technical and non-technical partners to analyze business processes and identify automation opportunities. The role requires designing workflow automation solutions utilizing open-source platforms and APIs, collaborating with software engineers on technical specifications, and coaching team members or partner implementers. Candidates should enjoy solving complex problems, organizing ambiguous datasets, and managing communication across multiple time zones and diverse project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Consult with technical and non-technical teams of government and NGO partners to analyze business processes and spot automation opportunities
- Design and help deliver workflow automation solutions using the OpenFn platform, artificial intelligence, and collaboration with implementation specialists
- Conduct remote discovery calls, consultations, and workshops alongside solution design and technical implementation tasks
- Perform API discovery and partner with software engineers to build technical specifications and execute workflow automation solutions
- Coach and train team members and partner implementers regarding IT implementation methods and solution design
Requirements
- 7 to 10 years of experience working with technology or data in areas such as data integration, workflow automation, technology consulting, business analysis, data management, data analysis, software development, or systems administration
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a customer-facing or consulting capacity providing IT implementation services, technical advisory, customer service, and/or technical training
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented mindset for interpreting complex datasets and messy spreadsheets
- Technical familiarity with popular information systems, business intelligence tools, CRM platforms, mobile data collection applications, and SQL databases
- Fluency in English
- Capacity to work from a home or shared office environment featuring fast and stable internet connectivity, preferably located within Africa or Europe time zones
- Willingness to travel internationally at least twice a year for government workshops, partner meetings, and conferences
Qualifications
- Working proficiency in another language, preferably French or Spanish
- Familiarity with REST API principles, JavaScript, and JSON
- Practical experience using Postman, OpenFn, Camunda, n8n, Zapier, Make.com, OpenHIM, Mulesoft, WSO2, or similar integration platforms and automation tools
- Background experience in global health, digital public goods, international development, TechForGood, or GovTech
- Experience with business process analysis, documentation, and workflow modeling using standards such as BPMN or UML
- Experience handling ETL processes, data integration, systems administration, and data systems design
- Experience writing technical specifications or performing software testing
- Experience managing people and leading a team
- Experience handling IT project management
