SGS is seeking a Senior Laboratory Analyst to join its team in Cape Town. In this on-site role, the professional will oversee testing procedures, manage personnel development, and uphold the quality management system. The position requires handling sample registration, operating lab equipment, evaluating results, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality protocols. It suits an experienced laboratory professional capable of working in a high-throughput environment with minimal supervision while communicating effectively with clients and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Manage staff schedules, workload distribution, and personnel development including training and skills measurement
- Perform routine and quality control tests according to standard methods and procedures
- Register, store, retain, and dispose of samples properly while maintaining accurate documentation on worksheets and QC charts
- Monitor technical accuracy, evaluate results, and report deviations immediately
- Operate laboratory instruments, maintain maintenance logbooks, and keep the workplace clean and tidy
- Monitor department consumable stock levels and schedule work to meet customer requirements
- Investigate and process nonconforming issues, improvement requests, and related corrective actions
- Handle equipment calibration programs, inventory control, minor in-house repairs, and instrument logs
- Communicate with customers regarding queries, turnaround times, sampling procedures, and test reports
Requirements
- Appropriate tertiary qualification
- Proficiency in English and Afrikaans (read, speak, and write)
- At least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience
- Proficiency in computer literacy using Word and Excel with above-average typing skills
- Ability to work in a high-throughput setting with minimal supervision
