Senior Machine Learning Engineer - Growth & Personalisation

The New Verticals team at Deliveroo works to expand app usage beyond restaurant orders into groceries, retail and related categories. It aims to convert people who only order meals into shoppers who also buy groceries, and to reactivate users who have gone quiet. Its main product surfaces are the home screen, category-specific landing pages and push notifications.

This London role leans toward personalisation and ranking. The engineer builds ranking models for grocery and retail landing pages, determining which items a shopper encounters first. Models are also needed to introduce new-category content onto a restaurant-centred homepage without harming the existing experience. The engineer creates personalisation models that map a customer's current habits onto suggestions for categories they have never tried.

Notification targeting completes the picture: choosing recipients, message content and timing for alerts meant to encourage uptake of the new categories. Collaboration reaches across the DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt groups.

Applicants need at least three years in ML engineering or data science, with dependable production-grade Python and experience carrying models all the way to deployment. Experience with personalisation, ranking or recommender systems is expected. Some knowledge of causal inference or uplift methods is welcome but optional. The company values a preference for straightforward solutions and a focus on results. The post is listed as hybrid with three office days each week.
