Quora has an opening for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer focused on ranking. It is a full-time position that supports remote work across a number of countries. Quora runs a global knowledge-sharing platform and Poe, a cloud workspace where people use multiple AI assistants together. The hire joins the distribution group, which develops recommendation engines for the feed, notifications and digest emails.
The engineer takes ownership of the second-stage ranking model that powers the feed and digest, among the company's most important surfaces. Duties span the entire pipeline: data flows, candidate selection, feature design, training and rollout into live systems. The person will also look for other areas where machine learning can help the product and build techniques that colleagues can reuse.

Responsibilities
- Strengthen current machine learning ranking models through coding and ML expertise

Requirements
- Over three years of practical experience building recommendation or ranking systems
- Strong grounding in the mathematics of machine learning methods
- Experience designing complete ML systems from start to finish

- Availability for real-time discussion during the Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm Pacific coordination window
- A technical degree (bachelor's, master's or doctorate) in a field such as computer science or engineering
Qualifications
- Five or more years coding in Python or C++
- Exposure to generative recommendation systems
- Hands-on time with user behavior or sequence modeling, transformer models, or long-sequence methods applied to ranking
- Leadership of large projects spanning several engineers
