Job Description
GitLab operates as an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, helping organizations accelerate digital transformation, reduce compliance and security risks, increase developer productivity, and improve operational efficiency. The company is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science to direct Product Data Science within its data division. Reporting directly to the Director of Data Science, this leadership position involves guiding a team of six data scientists. The person in this role will shape the analytical strategy for specific product areas, establish a merged data science function that combines data science with analytics, and scale the team accordingly. Leadership duties include setting long-term roadmaps, prioritizing tasks across product lines, acting as a primary partner for engineering and product leaders, and addressing potential resource gaps proactively. While the position centers on coaching, hiring, and building a high-trust environment, the manager will occasionally engage in hands-on tasks such as writing SQL queries, auditing machine learning models, or pressure-testing analytics. Candidates must be comfortable operating within an all-remote, asynchronous environment, utilizing AI tools as part of daily workflows, and aligning with the corporate culture of accountability and continuous knowledge exchange.

- Identify resource gaps and risks early, presenting clear options to senior leadership for timely decision-making
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and retain high-performing data science talent while establishing clear career paths
- Establish standards for metric definitions, experimentation, causal inference, and production modeling
- Maintain a culture of openness, predictable progress sharing, and high accountability
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in product analytics, data science, or a related domain
- At least 3 years of experience managing data science or analytics teams specifically within B2B SaaS or technology companies
- Demonstrated product sense with a history of acting as a trusted advisor to Product and Engineering stakeholders
- Advanced proficiency in statistics and experimentation, including practical application of quasi-experimental methodologies like propensity score matching, difference-in-differences, and synthetic control
- Expert-level SQL capabilities, preferably with Snowflake, alongside robust Python programming skills and experience deploying machine learning models into production
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools and the ability to critically evaluate AI outputs
Qualifications
- Prior background working with product-led growth products, DevSecOps, or developer tooling
- Demonstrated experience tracking the adoption and quality performance of AI-driven product capabilities
- Internal or external thought leadership within the analytics or data science community
- Advanced university degree focused on a quantitative discipline
Core Skills
