Job Description

LaunchDarkly makes a platform that lets developers ship features with less risk: they can roll changes back instantly, target experiences to specific customer groups, release gradually, and run experiments. The company's aim is faster and steadier releases. This Senior Manager, Security role is rated Level M3 and works alongside the Director of Security.

The job advances a shift from an audit-calendar security model to one led by risk. In that model, engineering teams take responsibility for their own security health, the security function guides and checks their work, automation and AI handle the first pass on findings, and posture is reported to executives every quarter. The manager builds this approach first within Product Security and then across the division.

The manager leads a team of security engineers, sets their priorities, and clarifies ownership boundaries, automated processes and what the security group no longer handles. Findings are sent to product teams with mapped severity, and noise is reduced across intake, triage and review. The manager serves as incident lead of record, approves vendor and access requests under delegation, covers the Director's operational tasks when needed, and publishes monthly service-level results and a quarterly risk register.

The ideal candidate has moved a security function from gatekeeping to team ownership with measurable outcomes and has run incidents at a software business, including external communications. They understand large-scale AWS security and external assurance work under SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP frameworks, and can still review code, read threat models and triage cloud findings to reach a decision.

Responsibilities

  • Run the team's workload, assigning people to the most important work and balancing capacity
  • Help engineering streamline security practices by defining ownership, automation and what Security no longer does
  • Coach product engineering groups to manage their own security posture, with findings that arrive with mapped severity
  • Own how security findings and requests are wired and routed, cutting noise and the number of human decisions
  • Serve as the named incident manager, first escalation point for service commitments, and approver for vendor and access requests
  • Share monthly service-level results with engineering and publish quarterly posture and a risk register to executives

Requirements

  • Five or more years in security or engineering leadership, including people management of senior engineers
  • Experience converting a gatekeeping security function into team ownership with measurable gains
  • Track record as incident manager for a SaaS business, including outward communication
  • Ability to guide teams through technical trade-offs and to grow senior engineers
  • Comfort with metrics and awareness of their limits
  • Practical exposure to AWS security across large environments, plus SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP audits as contributor or control owner
  • Strong communication with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Thoughtful, caring leadership style that values collaboration

Qualifications

  • Earlier career as a senior or staff-level security engineer
  • Experience as deputy to a director or CISO, with judgment on the calls to make in their stead

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Restricted stock units
  • Coverage for medical, vision and dental care
  • Mental health support
