Mercury, a financial technology company developing banking solutions for startups, is seeking a Senior Operational Risk Manager to join its remote team. This full-time position reports to the Head of Operational Risk under the Chief Risk Officer and focuses on managing the day-to-day operations of the company's Operational Risk program. The person in this role will have the autonomy to help build out and shape the framework as Mercury prepares for future banking operations.

The role requires partnering closely with first-line risk teams, Compliance, Information Security, Internal Audit, and Third-Party Risk. Responsibilities span overseeing operational events, managing centralized issues, establishing risk and control standards, and producing risk reporting for leadership and the Board.
Mercury provides a total rewards package that includes base salary, equity through stock options or RSUs, and benefits. Target base salary ranges depend on geographic location. For employees situated in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area, the range is $199,900 to $249,900 USD. For US employees outside those specified metro areas, the range is $179,900 to $224,900 USD. For Canadian employees regardless of location, the range is $189,000 to $236,200 CAD.
Responsibilities
- Establish risk and control assessment standards by reviewing and challenging first-line risk and control matrices, testing design and operating effectiveness, and issuing findings
- Oversee the operational event program by challenging root causes, ratings, and fixes while tracking trends enterprise-wide
- Manage the centralized issues program across incidents, operational events, testing, and regulatory findings from intake to closure
- Define enterprise key risk indicators and thresholds linked to risk appetite and aggregate metrics for Board reporting
- Deliver second-line reviews and concurrence for high-risk new activities
- Write and maintain operational risk management standards, procedures, and templates
- Support audits, regulatory examinations, and charter readiness reviews
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in operational risk, compliance, or internal audit at a bank or a fintech partnering with a bank
- Hands-on ownership of an issues management or operational event program covering severity rating, escalation, and remediation validation
- Experience administering a governance, risk, and compliance platform such as Archer or LogicGate
- Strong data skills to analyze raw issue and event data for leadership decision-making
- Familiarity with OCC and interagency expectations for operational risk management
