GitLab is seeking a Senior Release Engineer to join its Enterprise Technology & AI team in Bengaluru. In this full-time role, the professional will focus on designing, standardizing, and operating reliable application delivery mechanisms for business systems such as Salesforce and Zuora. GitLab serves millions of registered users as an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, helping organizations boost developer productivity and accelerate digital transformation. This position suits an experienced practitioner who can build scalable CI/CD practices and embed AI-assisted tools into daily workflows.
The person hired will establish environment and promotion strategies, create reusable automation scripts, and collaborate across departments to enforce release governance. Daily responsibilities involve using approved AI-assisted engineering instruments like Claude or the Duo Agent Platform to handle pipeline creation, scriptwriting, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation. The role requires partnering closely with security, compliance, architecture, and application teams to make deployments more predictable, transparent, and repeatable while minimizing manual effort.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain GitLab CI/CD or comparable pipelines handling validation, testing, deployment, and rollbacks for enterprise applications
- Write reusable automation using scripting languages like Python to minimize manual tasks and boost repeatability
- Utilize approved AI-assisted tools daily to speed up pipeline development, script creation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation
- Define CI/CD patterns for platforms including Salesforce and Zuora
- Establish environment promotion strategies covering configuration management and deployment sequencing
- Implement quality gates, approval workflows, audit trails, and policy controls
- Partner with application owners to set branching, versioning, cadence, and rollback standards
- Enhance release observability through deployment dashboards, metrics, change records, and operational reporting
- Investigate deployment failures, conduct root-cause analysis, and execute corrective actions
- Contribute to release calendars, change planning, blackout-period coordination, and risk-based decision making
- Build documentation, runbooks, templates, and enablement materials for consistent delivery practices
- Coach engineers on CI/CD tools, release automation, branching strategies, and operational readiness
- Collaborate with security, compliance, and architecture stakeholders to satisfy control requirements
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional experience in release engineering, DevOps, or a related field
- Hands-on background managing releases and deployments for enterprise SaaS applications such as Salesforce and Zuora
- Strong practical experience designing and operating GitLab CI/CD or comparable pipelines in production settings
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language like Python for building maintainable automation
- Daily hands-on use of enterprise-approved AI-assisted development and automation tools like Claude
- Familiarity with source control, branching and merging strategies, artifact management, and rollback methods
- Working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, authentication patterns, and integration debugging
- Experience handling multi-environment releases with focus on configuration, dependencies, and access controls
- Demonstrated ability to resolve pipeline failures, integration defects, and environment discrepancies
- Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration abilities
