Job Description
Flexport is hiring a Senior Security Engineer, Detection & Response to join its global security team on a remote basis. Flexport builds technology solutions for global trade, helping companies move merchandise across over 100 countries and operating within a multi-billion dollar industry.
In this role, engineers own detection and response duties from start to finish without relying on a managed security service provider or tier-one queue. Responsibilities include writing and tuning detection rules across endpoints, identity providers, SaaS applications, and cloud environments, as well as handling incident response, establishing telemetry requirements, and conducting proactive threat hunting. The position features a global follow-the-sun pager rotation to avoid midnight alerts.
This role suits professionals with extensive hands-on experience in detection engineering, threat hunting, or incident response. Candidates should be comfortable writing production code in a programming language like Python or Go and working with modern SIEM platforms. Because the organization impacts physical supply chains and customs filings, security decisions carry tangible consequences. The salary for this full-time position ranges from USD 138,196 to USD 252,000 per year depending on location and qualifications, and total compensation includes bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
Responsibilities
- Build and tune detection mechanisms across endpoints, identity systems, SaaS, and cloud infrastructure using version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Monitor and evaluate detection metrics such as coverage against MITRE ATT&CK, precision, and time-to-detect
- Manage incident response tasks including triage, containment, remediation, and writing retrospectives
- Develop automation tools to reduce investigative toil and coordinate with international team members across time zones
- Collaborate with product and infrastructure departments to establish telemetry requirements prior to system deployment
- Perform proactive threat hunts across the IT estate to generate new detections or documented coverage
Requirements
- Typically five to eight years of professional background in detection engineering, incident response, or threat hunting
- Demonstrated practical experience writing and tuning detection logic
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or Go for creating detection and automation code
- Familiarity with modern SIEM platforms or detection pipelines like Panther, Elastic, or Splunk
- Hands-on background leading or playing a primary role in triaging and closing security incidents
Qualifications
- Experience treating detections as code utilizing peer reviews, CI/CD, and staged rollouts
- Background defining telemetry contracts for systems prior to their release
- Ability to critically evaluate and verify AI-assisted outputs rather than trusting them blindly
- Familiarity with cloud-native and Kubernetes telemetry
- Prior exposure to financial-crime or fraud detection patterns
Core Skills
Benefits
- Bonus opportunities
- Equity offerings
- Comprehensive health benefits including medical and dental
- Flexible time off
