Elastic builds cloud-based search, security, and observability solutions utilizing a search AI platform deployed by over half of the Fortune 500. The organization seeks a Senior Software Developer for its globally distributed Elasticsearch Analytical Engine team to work remotely. This full-time position centers on designing and implementing data-intensive features, resolving bugs, and building analytics capabilities within Elasticsearch's aggregation framework and piped query language, known as ES|QL.
The role requires writing fast, scalable, and intuitive software using idiomatic modern Java while collaborating across continents using asynchronous methods like GitHub, Slack, and Zoom. Candidates should possess strong system engineering capabilities, a drive for algorithmic optimization, and the ability to operate autonomously. The position involves engaging with international community members, managing pull requests, and operating closely with hardware, operating systems, and user interface teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new features and enhancements for Elasticsearch
- Resolve bugs and maintain code maintainability
- Research, select, and occasionally implement optimal data structures and algorithms
- Collaborate globally with engineers on search and query analytics capabilities
- Coordinate with user interface teams and API solution teams
- Triage and handle community-submitted issues and pull requests
- Write idiomatic modern Java code
Requirements
- Strong core Java skills with familiarity in standard data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas
- Experience with software systems engineering
- High level of autonomy to guide projects from technical design to completion
- Comfort with collaborative and asynchronous development over the internet
- Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Track record of using artificial intelligence to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code
Qualifications
- Prior experience building with Elasticsearch
- Background working in the search and information retrieval space
- Familiarity with information retrieval data structures and algorithms
- Experience with data storage technology or building data analytics capabilities
- Experience designing, leading, and owning cross-functional initiatives
- Familiarity with open source projects, source control workflows, and continuous integration
