SureCost is hiring a remote Senior Software Engineer to design, maintain, and enhance backend services, APIs, and external integrations for its pharmacy purchasing and inventory platform. Used daily by more than 1,600 pharmacies, the platform relies on a full-stack ownership model where engineers handle everything from API contracts and service logic to the data layer, external integrations, supporting UI components, deployments, and production support.
This role centers on .NET development and requires writing production software using fully agentic AI workflows, where tools like Claude Code serve as the primary environment for coding, testing, and execution. The engineer collaborates within a cross-functional pod alongside senior engineers, a pod lead, a product owner, QA professionals, and contractor teammates, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering.
Ideal candidates take complete end-to-end responsibility for their deliverables, participate actively in sprint planning and code reviews, and help maintain high engineering standards through automated testing and rigorous quality gates.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using C# and ASP.NET Core.
- Develop and support third-party integrations covering authentication, data mapping, synchronization, webhooks, rate limiting, and error handling.
- Create relational data models, schema migrations, and optimized queries for SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
- Utilize agentic AI development tools to write, test, refactor, and document code while adhering to quality gates.
- Manage deliverables from initial design through automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Implement comprehensive automated test coverage including unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Develop or adjust React and TypeScript front-end code as needed to complete full-stack features.
- Participate in sprint planning, task estimation, code reviews, and team operational routines.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience with substantial backend work in C# and .NET.
- Hands-on background building and maintaining production integrations with third-party systems.
- Demonstrated experience shipping production code using fully agentic AI development tools beyond basic code completion.
- Strong expertise in ASP.NET Core, RESTful API design, asynchronous programming, dependency injection, and ORMs like Entity Framework Core or Dapper.
- Solid relational database abilities in SQL Server or PostgreSQL encompassing schema design, query optimization, and migrations.
- Working knowledge of React and TypeScript for building front-end features.
- Proficiency in at least one major cloud platform with messaging and queuing experience.
- Proven end-to-end ownership of software from development to post-release support.
Qualifications
- Experience with accounting, ERP, or financial integrations such as Xero, NetSuite, or Sage, or EDI standards like X12.
- Background in event-driven and asynchronous architectures involving background workers and message queues.
- Familiarity with containerized deployments using Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code with Terraform.
- Experience with observability tools like Datadog for tracing, logging, and alerting.
- Familiarity with React PWA, React Native, React Native Web, or design systems.
- Prior work within data-dense B2B applications focused on purchasing, invoicing, or ERP-style workflows.
