Job Description
Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Retail DEX) to join its Consumer and Business group on the Retail DEX team. This group manages the trading architecture and data systems powering decentralized exchange transactions within the primary Coinbase application, serving millions of users trading millions of tokens across networks like Solana and Base. The position involves developing software that bridges traditional off-chain environments with onchain mechanics to ensure unified user experiences regardless of settlement layers.
This role is suited for backend engineers experienced in building production-grade data systems and integrating with blockchain smart contracts. Responsibilities
- Incorporate additional blockchains, launchpads, and decentralized exchanges into the main application to expand token availability
- Create and execute proprietary smart contracts for features such as advanced order types and DEX aggregation
- Scale real-time data pipelines to process blockchain market data at speeds exceeding one hundred thousand messages per second
- Refine the trading architecture to maximize execution speed, asset coverage, and trade fill quality
- Advance agentic-first development practices by producing self-improving tools and software to boost team efficiency
Requirements
- At least five years of backend engineering experience creating and running production data pipelines or data systems
- Practical background in architecting data-heavy systems alongside large-scale infrastructure tools such as Redis, Temporal, Starrocks, Clickhouse, and Kafka
- Demonstrated history of building and connecting smart contracts on Solana or EVM networks like Ethereum and Base
- Track record of developing and enhancing agentic-first code repositories in production settings
- Responsible utilization of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow quality, cost, and efficiency
