Job Description

Pantheon is a WebOps platform provider that supplies cloud-native software designed to help developers, IT professionals, and marketers build, test, and deploy website changes. The company is currently hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Connectivity & API Transformation team. In this role, the successful candidate will work on the core connective infrastructure that supports hundreds of thousands of websites and billions of monthly page views.

This position focuses on developing the unified federated GraphQL API, establishing network architecture and service discovery, guiding the migration away from a legacy Python monolith, and managing workflow orchestration. The engineering culture at Pantheon emphasizes collaboration, autonomy, character, and a no-blame environment.

The role is suited for experienced software engineers who possess a strong background in building distributed production systems, working with cloud infrastructure, and establishing API standards for other internal teams to utilize. Candidates must be comfortable participating in on-call rotations and maintaining high standards for system reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve the unified API using a federated GraphQL supergraph and Go subgraphs
  • Establish network architecture, VPC configurations, and service discovery strategies
  • Decompose a large legacy Python monolith into well-bounded services and manage the Cassandra data layer
  • Design and operate workflow orchestration using GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub, and Go services on Cloud Run
  • Establish GraphQL, gRPC, and REST standards for other teams to follow
  • Monitor production health using SLOs, resolve issues, and participate in on-call rotations
  • Mentor peers and provide code reviews and design feedback

Requirements

  • Significant professional experience building and operating production services in Go
  • Experience designing APIs with careful attention to schema design, versioning, and backward compatibility
  • Background working with large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems
  • Experience breaking down legacy systems or monoliths incrementally
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking fundamentals including VPCs, DNS, load balancing, and service authentication
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and release engineering practices
  • Experience with major cloud providers, particularly GCP
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana Cloud, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with GraphQL Federation, federation gateways, routers, or schema registries
  • Working knowledge of Rust
  • Experience working with Cassandra or managing stateful datastores in production
  • Experience migrating off end-of-life language runtimes
  • Hands-on experience with private service networking or service meshes
  • Working knowledge of GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, and Cloud Build
  • Working knowledge of AlloyDB, MySQL, and Redis
  • Working knowledge of Docker, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, and Vault
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and Drupal

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Industry competitive compensation and equity plan
  • Paid Time Off, Paid Sick Leave, and 11 Paid Company Holidays
  • Full medical coverage including extended health care, dental, and vision
  • Top-of-line equipment
  • Monthly allowance for wellness, reading, and LinkedIn Learning access
  • Team-based and company-wide events and activities
