Job Description
This is a full-time, hybrid Senior Software Engineer role in London on the Event Streaming Systems team, which sits inside the broader Storage function. It designs and runs the event streaming infrastructure that underpins critical processes at Deliveroo, DoorDash and Wolt. Its responsibilities include Kafka, an internal streaming abstraction called EventBus, and streaming technologies yet to be adopted.
These platforms carry tier-zero workloads and form the foundation on which engineering teams build dependable, event-driven products. The engineer designs, builds and runs large-scale streaming infrastructure and works to make Kafka, EventBus and related platforms more reliable, scalable, observable and automated. Investigating difficult distributed-system faults, such as slow performance and capacity limits, is a core activity, as is creating automation and self-repair features that reduce manual operational effort.
The engineer also takes part in incident handling, operational preparedness and steady improvement of tier-zero infrastructure. Daily work also spans core infrastructure, data platform, SRE, storage and EventBus teams in both the US and EU, and the engineer contributes to the long-range architecture of the streaming platform.

- Create automation and self-healing features that cut operational effort.
- Take part in incident response and ongoing improvement of tier-zero infrastructure.
- Contribute to the long-range architecture of the platform.
Requirements
- Real-world experience building or running distributed systems that serve production traffic.
- Experience with Kafka or a similar event streaming system.
- Solid programming in Java, Go, Python or something comparable.
- Experience running scalable production infrastructure and improving its reliability.
- Grasp of infrastructure automation, observability, capacity planning and operational excellence.
- Working familiarity with Linux and networking, plus JVM systems, or a clear wish to build that depth.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams.
Qualifications
- Upstream contributions in the Kafka ecosystem or nearby open-source projects.
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Redpanda, WarpStream, AutoMQ or Pulsar.
- Hands-on work tuning JVMs, brokers, partitions or Cruise Control.
- Exposure to tiered-storage, diskless or multi-region streaming designs.
- Experience operating tier-zero infrastructure at large scale.
