Its squads pair product, design, AI, data and current engineering methods across cloud infrastructure, data engineering, AI integration and service design. MO is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for work with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the agency that is its customer.
The engineer will help update the systems that handle VA eligibility and enrollment, which serve millions of former service members, plus their families and caregivers. Work includes building, validating and upkeeping enterprise Java systems, diagnosing and fixing intricate defects and live-system problems, and supporting enhancements and sustainment for Oracle-backed systems built with WebLogic, JMS, EJB, JSP, Struts, Hibernate and Spring. The role also covers SQL and database integration, code review, coaching junior engineers, automated testing, CI/CD and deployments. The posting expects hands-on experience with both REST and SOAP services and with backend microservices built on Java 17 or later and Spring Boot.

Responsibilities
- Build, validate and upkeep enterprise Java applications
- Diagnose and fix intricate defects and live-system problems
- Support enhancements and sustainment for Oracle-backed systems built with WebLogic, JMS, EJB, JSP, Struts, Hibernate and Spring
- Work alongside architects and lead engineers on the modernization effort
- Develop and tune SQL queries and data-layer integrations
- Participate in review sessions and coach junior engineers
- Help with automated tests, CI/CD pipelines and deployments
Requirements
- Practical work building and wiring up REST and SOAP services and integrations
- Practical experience creating backend services in Java 17 or newer, with Spring Boot, microservices, JPA or Hibernate and REST APIs
- Undergraduate qualification in computing, software engineering or information systems, or equivalent practical experience
- Between five and eight years of professional software development background
- Strong Java programming background
- Practical experience with Spring Framework or Spring Boot (or both)
- Working experience with Oracle or other relational data stores
- Comfort with Git for version control
- Agile or Scrum team background
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and verbal communication skills
