Deliveroo is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack) to join the Home Page and Merchandising Platform team in London. This hybrid role requires working from the London office approximately three days per week. Deliveroo operates a global, three-sided marketplace and is part of DoorDash, offering opportunities to collaborate across DoorDash and Wolt systems. In this position, you will build and scale backend services and frontend components capable of handling high-traffic workloads exceeding 20,000 requests per minute.
The role involves partnering closely with product managers and experience designers to design architecture, lead technical planning, execute code reviews, and drive projects from conception to completion. The team utilizes AI-assisted engineering practices to ship updates rapidly while maintaining high software standards. Furthermore, you will help mentor colleagues and participate in the engineering hiring process to support team growth.
Ideal candidates will bring substantial experience building web-based applications using modern technologies, managing high-volume web architectures, and working with relational and NoSQL databases. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale backend services and frontend components handling heavy traffic workloads
- Lead architectural improvements and conduct code reviews to maintain operational health and system visibility
- Partner with product managers and experience designers to plan projects, assess dependencies, and manage technical risks
- Deconstruct complex technical challenges to guide team roadmaps and technical execution
- Mentor fellow engineers and participate in the engineering recruitment process
Requirements
- Experience building web-based applications with modern tech stacks such as Go, Ruby, Python, or Scala
- Proven ability to design and operate web architecture handling significant request volumes
- Demonstrated ownership of relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Experience working with NoSQL backends including Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch
- Commitment to writing readable, thoroughly tested code
