Job Description

Wpromote is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to specialize in data pipelines on a full-time, remote basis within most states in the United States. In this position, the professional will serve as a subject matter expert in workflow orchestration and pipeline automation, driving technical initiatives, architecting scalable data solutions, and mentoring other engineers. The role involves working closely with senior management, participating in agile ceremonies, and enhancing the velocity and quality of data extract, load, and transform operations.

The employer builds and maintains Polaris, a proprietary data and marketing intelligence platform that supplies marketing teams with a comprehensive data foundation and functions as the internal operations source of truth. This opportunity is well-suited for a seasoned engineer with extensive expertise in database optimization, scripting, and pipeline automation tools who wants to lead complex data projects in a collaborative environment. While the position is remote-friendly, optional office hubs exist in New York and Los Angeles for in-person collaboration, learning events, and workspace access.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert in workflow orchestration and pipeline automation
  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data solutions utilizing Airflow, Google Cloud data products, and dbt
  • Manage a large portfolio of dbt models by applying macros and DRY programming patterns
  • Partner with quality assurance to support test-driven development and continuous integration and delivery processes
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and optimize the execution speed and performance of pipelines and workflows
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation for system deployment, configuration, and implementation
  • Engage in all agile meetings, including sprint planning and daily standups
  • Guide and mentor fellow engineers while promoting high technical standards
  • Ensure strict adherence to data governance, privacy rules, and security standards

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience in software development
  • Extensive practical background working with SQL, Python, and data pipelines
  • Proven expertise building automated ETL and ELT pipelines via Airflow and DAG-based orchestration tools
  • Deep capability in managing dbt models, tests, and macros
  • Strong proficiency in software architecture, API integrations, and scripting languages
  • Extensive experience working with databases such as BigQuery and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code using Terraform
  • Working knowledge of advanced data formats like JSONL, Avro, Hive, and Parquet
  • Experience with version control systems and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions

Qualifications

  • Prior experience utilizing Airbyte for data ingestion
  • Good understanding of business intelligence platforms like Looker
  • Experience utilizing monitoring and logging software such as Prometheus and Grafana
