Elastic seeks a Senior Software Engineer - Platform Billing Experience to join its Billing Experience team in the United States. In this full-time role, the engineer will manage usage-based metering, consumption billing, and marketplace integrations that operate globally across AWS, GCP, and Azure. Elastic is the Search AI Company, providing cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability that help organizations leverage structured and unstructured data.
The successful candidate will take ownership of public and internal billing APIs, design full-stack features within Elastic Cloud consoles, and handle tasks from initial design to final delivery. Responsibilities include shaping API contracts, enhancing service observability, participating in code and design reviews, and joining on-call rotations. This position suits individuals with extensive backend or full-stack engineering backgrounds who can solve complex distributed systems challenges with minimal guidance.
Total compensation includes a base salary ranging from USD 133,100 to 210,600 per year (with an alternate range of USD 159,900 to 252,900 in select high-cost locations), eligibility to participate in the company stock program, and a comprehensive benefits package featuring a company-matched 401(k), health coverage, and parental leave.
Responsibilities
- Manage and improve public and internal billing APIs focusing on reliability and developer experience
- Design and build full-stack features spanning backend services and billing/account UIs in Elastic Cloud consoles
- Lead small to medium projects end-to-end from design to delivery
- Contribute to API design decisions regarding versioning, contracts, and consistency
- Enhance the observability and reliability of billing services through monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Take part in code reviews, design reviews, and on-call rotations
- Mentor junior engineers through feedback, pairing, and design discussions
- Collaborate with Product, Design, SRE, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to shape technical direction
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering building and maintaining APIs
- Experience working on customer-facing or developer-facing products at scale
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and how to build for reliability and scale
- Background in cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Eligibility to work in Department of Defense Impact Level 4 or above cloud service environments
Qualifications
- Experience with frontend technologies used in dashboards or console products, such as React
- Background in SaaS billing, metering, or financial systems
