Datadog is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Referential Data Platform, known as REDAPL, which tracks customer infrastructure resources and relationships for multiple internal products. Operating globally as an observability and security platform, Datadog manages application, infrastructure, data, and security visibility at scale. In this remote, full-time position, the engineer will help advance REDAPL, a system that currently ingests over 4.5 million updates per second and powers features like Cloud Security Posture Management, Cloud Cost Management, Resource Catalog, and Service Catalog.
This role suits an experienced back-end specialist who enjoys building distributed systems, handling large-scale data ingestion, and tackling complex processing and query pipelines. The selected candidate will shape technical architecture, drive major platform upgrades, and collaborate with internal product teams to ensure scalability and resilience. Responsibilities
- Develop a query engine capable of handling relationship traversals for demanding workloads
- Drive high-priority projects that improve platform resilience, scalability, and value across teams
- Guide fellow engineers through architectural decisions related to the platform
- Identify and resolve reliability risks and system trends
- Contribute to short- and long-term planning and roadmap prioritization
- Partner with internal product teams to understand integration requirements and product growth
Requirements
- Several years of contribution to initiatives within a platform or infrastructure-focused environment
- Extensive work experience with multiple types of data stores
- Demonstrated background leading technical initiatives focusing on performance, cost efficiency, operability, and resilience
- Significant back-end engineering experience building and operating distributed systems at high scale
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience
- Familiarity with graph databases such as Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, or PuppyGraph
- Production-grade experience utilizing Apache Iceberg
- Understanding of query planning, or past contributions to production-grade query engines or related projects like Trino, Calcite, Substrait, or DataFusion
