Vectara is hiring a Senior or Staff Software Engineer for a remote position. The employer builds an AI agent platform and needs an engineering professional with a background in backend development and modern DevOps practices. This position focuses on constructing and expanding the primary infrastructure that supports the AI agent platform.
The chosen candidate will formulate resilient services and scalable architectures, prioritizing performance, automation, observability, and reliability. Key duties involve leveraging AI-assisted coding tools to manage multiple assignments and execute tasks through AI agents. The role also requires guiding code, architecture, and system design evaluations, alongside mentoring colleagues.
The ideal candidate possesses at least five years of software engineering experience centered on platform engineering and backend systems, along with a strong foundation in Java and Python. Familiarity with multiple computing environments, container orchestration tools, infrastructure-as-code, and production machine learning workloads is necessary for this position.
Responsibilities
- Utilize AI-assisted coding practices to manage multiple tasks and execute operations using AI agents
- Lead reviews for code, system design, and architecture while mentoring engineering team members
- Build, deploy, and maintain secure backend services and platform elements that scale
- Advance automation, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and monitoring systems
- Partner with product engineering and research departments to release, scale, and refine machine learning and natural language processing workloads
- Spearhead projects aimed at enhancing system dependability, scalability, and the developer experience
- Participate in architectural and infrastructure choices during platform expansion
- Promote engineering standards regarding software quality, testing methodologies, and DevOps practices
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of software engineering experience focusing on backend systems and platform engineering
- Proficiency in Java and Python
- Extensive background across computing environments including GCP, AWS, on-premise, or Azure
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Pulumi
- Experience with observability platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK or EFK stack
- Background supporting machine learning workloads in production environments or working on machine learning platforms
- Demonstrated experience in designing and running distributed systems
- Knowledge of data infrastructure tools such as Kafka, Spark, and Airflow
