Job Description
Trase, which presents itself as a complete platform for putting enterprise AI into production and tuning it over time, is hiring a Senior or Staff Software Engineer for its platform team. The engineer works on Trase OS, the shared platform behind deployments in regulated sectors such as healthcare, oil and gas and national security. The role is remote, and customer visits can be part of the job.
The engineer builds and owns central pieces of the execution model that link product surfaces, tools, agents and workflows. The focus is reliability, scalability and correctness, particularly for long-lived agents where auditability matters. Responsibilities include designing the state machine, lifecycle, resource model and failure semantics, and building platform APIs and SDKs with careful versioning and compatibility.
The work covers correctness across retries, restarts and partial failures, along with concurrency controls, rate limits, backpressure, partitioning and workload isolation. It also covers security and governance features such as role-based and attribute-based access, policy enforcement and audit lineage, plus observability through tracing, logs, metrics and an explainable record of agent actions. Engineers lead design reviews, define test strategy, set service-level objectives and run incident reviews.
The posting asks for eight or more years building distributed or platform systems, at least four years owning critical runtimes or orchestration systems, and deep knowledge of durable execution patterns such as saga logic and idempotency. At staff level, the expectation is leading architecture across teams and defining engineering norms. The posted salary range is $180,000 to $240,000.
Responsibilities
- Design and own core execution components, including the state machine, lifecycle, resource model and failure semantics
- Build distributed systems that behave predictably through retries, restarts and concurrent execution
- Develop platform APIs and SDKs and manage versioning and compatibility
- Guarantee correctness through idempotency, deterministic replays and compensating actions
- Build concurrency controls, rate limits, backpressure and workload isolation
- Build security and governance features such as RBAC or ABAC, policy enforcement and audit trails
- Deliver observability, including distributed tracing and an explainable record of agent actions
- Own quality through design reviews, test strategy, service-level objectives, incident response and postmortems
- Mentor engineers and set engineering patterns across the platform
Requirements
- Eight or more years building distributed or platform systems, including cross-team architecture
- Four-plus years of ownership over critical runtimes or systems that orchestrate workflows
- Deep experience with durable execution concepts such as event sourcing, saga patterns and idempotency
- Proven security and governance work in production, including authentication, RBAC, audit and policy
- Hands-on observability experience, including trace correlation across asynchronous boundaries
- Solid design skills for storage, queueing, scheduling and event-based architectures
- Skill in a modern language such as Go, Rust, Java or TypeScript, plus cloud-native tooling
- Ease working within regulated or high-assurance settings
Qualifications
- Experience with workflow engines such as Temporal, Cadence, AWS Step Functions, Argo or Airflow
- Experience with policy engines, secrets management or KMS
- Government or healthcare experience, including HIPAA and audit readiness
- Experience with ML or LLM evaluation frameworks and multi-tenant isolation
