SGS is recruiting a Senior Structural/Mechanical Designer in South Africa to produce accurate design documents and safe, cost-effective structural designs for plant projects. The role develops design criteria, manages quantity and man-hour budgets, checks software outputs and works with the drawing office and clients. It suits an engineer with at least six years of design experience in mining, minerals processing, petrochemical or related plant environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop discipline strategies and design criteria that suit each project's requirements
- Produce cost-effective, safe structural designs for tender and project scope, and assess alternatives
- Produce quantity and man-hour budgets, and monitor scope changes and their effect on those budgets
- Maintain an effective record of calculations and technical information, and support the drawing office
Requirements
- Minimum of six years of engineering design experience in mining, minerals processing, petrochemical or related industrial plant environments
- Knowledge of basic project management methods and the project life cycle
- Ability to turn technical knowledge into design criteria for project requirements
- Ability to create, understand and communicate technical specifications
Qualifications
- Proven piping design and 3D modelling experience, with AutoCAD Plant 3D a strong advantage
- Understanding of contract types, including international contracts
