Syms Strategic Group, LLC (SSG) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer for a full-time, remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role acts as the Edifecs Platform Manager, directing the application support organization to ensure high performance, security compliance, and seamless scalability.
The person in this role will guide architecture choices, oversee technical staff, manage product roadmaps, and maintain core Edifecs tools including XEServer, XEngine, Trusted Platform Modules, and SpecBuilder. Responsibilities also include collaborating across teams for release deployments, managing JVM settings, and refining batch workflows.

Responsibilities
- Manage the Edifecs application support organization as Platform Manager to maintain operational stability and strategic alignment
- Oversee technical staffing, provide leadership, and execute product roadmaps
- Collaborate with product, architecture, vendor, and business units to drive cloud scalability and modernization efforts
- Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, Trusted Platform Modules, SpecBuilder, and related modules
- Direct EDI Analysts in building, deploying, and optimizing Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows
- Troubleshoot and resolve data mapping issues, performance bottlenecks, validation failures, and functional errors
- Handle system logging, Java Virtual Machine tuning, and certificate or keystore configurations
- Support software releases, patching, upgrades, and environment refreshes
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of Edifecs architecture and transaction lifecycles
- Experience working in Amazon Web Services cloud environments
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain or possess a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance
- Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools including Ansible and Terraform
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban using JIRA
Qualifications
- Edifecs certification
- AWS certification
- Over ten years of professional experience in EDI, enterprise application operations, healthcare, software engineering, or data engineering
- Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Hands-on experience with Electronic Data Interchange X.12 transactions, medical claims, and HIPAA compliance regulations
