Syms Strategic Group, LLC is searching for a Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) - II to join its Veterans Affairs department on a full-time, remote basis. This position involves managing and maintaining cloud-based application systems, resolving operational outages, and collaborating with customers and internal teams. The role requires handling routine technical issues, ensuring adherence to agency standards, and maintaining hardware and software assets.

Responsibilities
- Deliver daily operational oversight for complex application cloud environments
- Identify, document, escalate, and resolve system outages and operational issues
- Interact directly with customers during standard operational activities
- Respond to user inquiries regarding software and hardware malfunctions
- Install and maintain computing infrastructure while tracking asset inventories
- Enforce agency standards, security policies, and continuous improvement practices
- Produce system documentation and provide training when necessary
Requirements
- Possess at least 8 years of professional experience in systems engineering or related production environments
- Demonstrate at least 3 years of experience with SQL querying and system monitoring
- Maintain familiarity with AWS and Azure cloud services such as S3, CloudWatch, Step Functions, and Batch Jobs
- Show proficiency in Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems
- Use scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for configuration and automation
- Apply automation platforms including Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack
- Understand networking concepts, VPN setups, firewall rules, and database systems like AWS RDS SQL Server or Oracle
- Hold U.S. citizenship
- Qualify for or possess a Public Trust MBI clearance
- Reside outside of CA, CO, IL, MN, NJ, NY, OR, and WA
Qualifications
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field
- Gain familiarity with Electronic Data Interchange X.12 medical claims such as 837, 834, and 277
- Earn advanced credentials such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, or Red Hat Certified Engineer
