The company is hiring a Senior Test Automation Engineer (also called SDET) for a horizontal engineering job that builds the test infrastructure every development squad uses. The work covers the current platform and a new platform being built from scratch. The aim is to make testing cheap and reliable for every engineer, measured by how quickly and confidently the team ships.
Work includes building stateful simulators that stand in for third-party custody, identity and screening vendors, writing contract tests that run on a schedule against vendor sandboxes, building test data and one-command environments, owning the CI test pipeline, and removing flaky tests. The role also assembles helper libraries, fixtures and documented test patterns that guide AI-assisted test generation, coaches engineers through reviews and pairing, and adds production checks such as post-deploy smoke tests and synthetic transactions.
Five-plus years in software work, with real ownership of test infrastructure, is the baseline. Strong TypeScript is needed because the backend and automation are written in it, along with experience building test frameworks from scratch, hands-on work with Playwright, CI/CD stage design in tools such as GitLab CI, and API testing with mocks or stubs. Comfort with AI coding assistants and quick, critical review of generated code is expected.
Self-direction matters here, since the work runs without daily oversight across all squads. A crypto background is not required; learning the crypto side of settlement, custody and screening flows is part of the job. The role reports to the Engineering Manager and aligns testing strategy with the QA Lead.
The position is remote and open to candidates in the EU, USA, Argentina and Brazil. It requires four hours a day shared with Central European time. The engagement is as an independent contractor, with terms set out in a contractor agreement.
Responsibilities
- Build stateful simulators that stand in for third-party custody, identity and screening vendors
- Write contract tests that run on a schedule against real vendor sandboxes
- Create test-data and environment utilities, including one-command setups carrying realistic data
- Own the CI test pipeline with fast pull request feedback and heavier nightly and pre-release suites
- Remove flaky tests through quarantine, statistics and root-cause analysis
- Assemble helper libraries, fixture sets, builder helpers and documented test templates
- Coach engineers through reviews and pairing so each team owns its own quality
- Build production checks such as smoke tests and synthetic transactions
Requirements
- Five-plus years in software roles, with real ownership of test infrastructure
- Strong TypeScript skills
- Track record of creating test frameworks and harnesses from zero
- Hands-on experience with Playwright or a similar modern automation framework
- Ability to design CI/CD test stages with parallel and selective test execution
- Skill in API tests and in mocking or stubbing outside services
- Comfort with AI coding tools, with quick critical review of their output
- Clear written and verbal English
- Independent, high-agency working style

- Understanding of money-flow testing, including idempotency, reconciliation and state machines
