Job Description

Tailscale is hiring a Senior Web Experimentation Manager, a role that runs the testing program across the busiest pages of its site, such as the homepage, the pricing page, use-case content and paid landing pages. Tailscale builds software that lets people and their devices connect securely. The company is fully distributed and was founded in 2019.

The manager owns the test roadmap, from collecting ideas across the team to ranking them by traffic, likely impact and cost. Standards for every experiment are set here: sample size planning, statistical power, the smallest effect worth detecting, guardrail metrics, and rules for launching, iterating or halting a test. The manager checks each test plan before launch and each outcome before it circulates, personally builds the most consequential tests (especially on pricing and the homepage), and keeps the official record of what the site has learned.

Candidates should bring six to nine years of work in conversion optimization, web testing, growth marketing or an adjacent area, including experience running a program across several pages or products. Hands-on skill with a testing platform like Optimizely or VWO, a solid understanding of statistics (false-positive control, sample ratio mismatch, the dangers of peeking), and enough front-end coding in HTML, CSS and JavaScript to assemble client-side variants are expected. SQL and GA4 skills let the candidate verify results independently. The work is remote-first and asynchronous. The posted US base range is $114,000 to $145,000, and individual offers can differ depending on experience and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the test roadmap, ranking requests by traffic, expected impact and cost.
  • Define the standards each experiment must meet, including sizing, power, effect thresholds and guardrails.
  • Check each test plan before launch and each outcome before anyone else sees it.
  • Build and run the highest-stakes tests yourself, especially on pricing and the homepage.
  • Work with web development and analytics to keep the testing platform and measurement dependable.
  • Maintain the experiment archive as the authoritative source for what the site has learned, and convert findings into web strategy recommendations.
  • Brief marketing leadership on results, shipped changes and the next tests.
  • Mentor people working on web, design and marketing about forming hypotheses and reading outcomes accurately.

Requirements

  • Six to nine years in conversion work, web testing, growth marketing or an adjacent field.
  • Experience owning a program that spans several pages or products.
  • Deep familiarity with Optimizely, VWO or a comparable platform.
  • Command of experiment statistics and the ability to explain whether a result deserves trust.
  • Front-end skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript for building variants.
  • Working SQL and GA4 skills to verify findings independently.
  • Clear writing and the ability to present tradeoffs to senior leaders.
  • Thriving in an asynchronous, remote-first setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience with pricing pages, or with pages that sort visitors into self-serve versus sales-assisted routes.
  • Background in software-as-a-service, developer tooling, infrastructure or security products.
  • Flag-driven release testing, or Bayesian and sequential analysis methods.
  • Experience migrating an experiment program to a different platform.
  • Awareness of accessibility and performance in test builds.
  • Experience creating a shared test library that colleagues draw on.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Group health, vision and dental coverage starting on day one.
  • Equity incentive plan within total compensation.
  • Retirement match dollar-for-dollar up to 0.75 percent of eligible pay.
  • Flexible paid time off and paid parental leave top-ups.
  • $1,500 USD per year for professional development.
  • Home office support: company laptop, monthly internet reimbursement and $500 USD for workstation setup.
  • Annual company retreat and team gatherings.
