The organization is currently seeking a remote Software Engineer, Agentic AI Systems to join its infrastructure division. This position centers on designing and implementing Rescale's Data Intelligence and Agentic AI platforms. The role involves managing production agents, ingestion pipelines, retrieval systems, and data services linking customer systems with cloud storage and compute clusters.
This opportunity fits professionals who enjoy partnering with product teams to refine ambiguous goals, building high-throughput data paths, and utilizing AI coding assistants effectively. The selected engineer will handle backend development, cloud infrastructure management, and occasional user interface updates to deliver complete customer solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain LLM-backed APIs, agents, retrieval systems, and system integrations.
- Develop and apply evaluations for retrieval-augmented generation and agent workflows to enhance system reliability.
- Construct ingestion pipelines and data paths connecting customer environments, cloud object storage, and compute clusters while balancing performance, reliability, and cost.
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams to translate broad objectives into practical specifications and iterative releases.
- Develop across backend services in Python, Java, or Go, cloud infrastructure using Kubernetes and major cloud providers, and occasional React and TypeScript user interfaces.
Requirements
- Three to five years of experience building and operating distributed systems and backend services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Hands-on production experience with retrieval-augmented generation, agentic AI, and evaluation frameworks.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language among Python, Java, and Go.
- Familiarity with data-intensive architectures such as relational databases, object storage, caches, and streaming or queuing systems.
- Experience using AI coding assistants while critically verifying their generated outputs.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
