EDB is currently hiring a Software Engineer/C Developer-PGD to join their team on a full-time, 100% remote basis. In this role, the engineer will focus on the EDB Postgres Distributed (PGD) product, which is a multi-master distributed PostgreSQL solution offering active-active replication, high availability, and geographic distribution for enterprise workloads.

This position involves collaborating with a globally distributed team to design, develop, test, and document new and existing PGD capabilities. Candidates will translate business requirements into actionable tasks, maintain software performance, conduct code reviews, and deliver production support to customers.
The role suits software professionals with strong C programming proficiency and a background in PostgreSQL internals and distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and document new PGD capabilities
- Maintain and enhance the usability and performance of current PGD features
- Translate business requirements into executable tasks
- Deliver production support to EDB PGD customers
- Participate in code reviews and collaborate with a globally distributed team
Requirements
- 5 or more years of software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in C programming
- Experience with PostgreSQL internals such as the storage engine, WAL, replication, catalog system, or extension development
- Understanding of distributed systems concepts including consensus, replication topologies, conflict resolution, eventual consistency, and failure modes
- Experience working on multi-version or multi-branch codebases that feature active backporting workflows
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and build systems
- Comfort working with Git on large, long-lived codebases with complex branching
- Strong performance analysis and debugging skills
Qualifications
- Prior contributions to PostgreSQL or other open-source database projects
- Experience with logical replication, custom replication solutions, or logical decoding
- Knowledge of distributed consensus algorithms like Raft
- Familiarity with the PostgreSQL extension API and hook system
- Experience with failover mechanisms and high availability architectures
- Experience with Python and Rust
- Experience using major cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Ansible
