Job Description
Deliveroo, which is now part of DoorDash, is recruiting a Software Engineer II (Backend) for its Subscriptions group in London. The post is full time and on-site. The group handles three subscription offerings: DashPass, Deliveroo Plus and Wolt+. Its job is to create common subscription building blocks that underpin loyalty and membership features for customers around the world, with close coordination with engineers in the United States and Europe.
The group mixes people from data, design, product, web, mobile and backend disciplines. Engineers are expected to take a feature from initial idea all the way to production, on systems used by millions every day. The listing puts strong emphasis on AI-assisted programming: candidates are asked to design processes in which AI agents complete whole tasks, and to develop internal utilities that let the wider group benefit.
The ideal candidate has shipped substantial software at scale, writes tests, follows production alerts, and designs with long-term upkeep in mind. Clear communication across time zones and daily use of AI tools are expected.
Responsibilities
- Carry features from idea to production with full ownership.
- Develop and extend shared subscription building blocks used across DashPass, Deliveroo Plus and Wolt+.
- Architect AI-agent processes that move work from specification through to a pull request, and decide which steps a human checks.
- Build internal utilities that make AI-assisted development quicker and more reliable for everyone.
- Partner with colleagues across data, design, product, web and mobile, plus engineers in the US and Europe.
Requirements
- Solid engineering foundations: testing, observability, reliability and maintainability for software operating at scale.
- Track record of building and releasing products, platforms, APIs or apps that stay dependable in production.
- Day-to-day use of AI tools with reasoned views about getting value from them.
- Ownership mindset: moves projects forward and keeps stakeholders informed across teams spread over several time zones.
- Team-oriented outlook covering consumer apps, web, server-side and data work.
Qualifications
- Hands-on work with AI agents or agentic coding flows, pursued on personal initiative.
- Informed opinions on system design, held flexibly and open to evidence.
- Eagerness to test new models, agents and tools, and discernment between useful tools and hype.
- Interest in building internal tooling and reusable abstractions for AI-assisted work.
