Board Intelligence seeks a Software Engineer - Security to lead engineering security initiatives across internal teams. Operating fully remotely, the company provides governance and board effectiveness advisory services backed by an AI-powered platform used by Fortune 500, FTSE 100, and OMX 30 clients. This position is neither client-facing nor product-focused. Instead, the individual will collaborate closely with the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer to elevate security standards and shape how the firm builds software securely.
The role begins by establishing strong security foundations, conducting architecture reviews, and integrating automated scanning tools into deployment pipelines. A core focus of the position involves developing AI agents to execute continuous application security testing. This opportunity suits an experienced developer who possesses a genuine passion for security, rather than a penetration tester or dedicated security specialist. Candidates should enjoy collaborating with engineering teams, influencing secure coding practices without formal authority, and leveraging AI coding tools.
Responsibilities
- Assess current engineering security standards and establish an improvement roadmap alongside the CTO and CISO
- Integrate and configure security pipelines including SAST, DAST, SCA, and credential scanning
- Review system architectures and application designs with engineering teams to identify vulnerabilities early
- Develop AI agents capable of continuous security testing and issue alerting
- Translate high-level security objectives into operational systems alongside the security team
- Provide technical guidance, examples, and tooling to help engineers build secure applications
Requirements
- Mid-level to senior background in producing production systems across any programming language
- Strong system design capabilities, including the interpretation of architecture diagrams to spot risks
- Demonstrated interest and personal motivation to focus on security work
- Solid understanding of secure development principles and frequent application vulnerabilities
- Practical background with CI/CD pipelines
- Capacity to influence engineering teams and secure support for modifications without formal authority
- Familiarity with AI coding tools in everyday workflows
- Fluent written and spoken English
Qualifications
- Experience implementing enterprise security tools like SAST, DAST, SCA, or secret scanning
- DevOps background within regulated enterprise environments such as financial services
- Prior work building AI agents or LLM-powered automations
