Job Description
Brain Co. develops artificial intelligence operating systems designed for regulated industries like insurance, government, and healthcare. The company is currently building AI technology capable of analyzing specialty insurance documents, such as policies, forms, endorsements, and schedules, to convert them into structured data. To ensure accuracy, Brain Co. is hiring a Specialty Insurance Underwriter, Coverage Attorney, Consultant, or Professional on a contract basis.
This role is ideal for experienced practitioners in excess and specialty insurance who want to apply their industry knowledge to machine learning development. The contractor will collaborate directly with engineering and product teams to evaluate AI performance, review document extractions, annotate complex policy limits, and establish quality benchmarks. Professionals will explain industry concepts, interpret how coverage responds to scenarios, and help translate standard practices into functional product requirements.
The position requires a time commitment of approximately two to ten hours per week across an initial duration of three to four months, with potential for extension based on project demands and mutual interest. The work schedule offers flexibility to accommodate current employment. While the posting indicates the engagement is remote-friendly with collaboration occurring through shared documents and working sessions, the employer also lists the role location as on-site in the requirements summary. No technical software background is necessary for this position, as the primary focus is providing expert guidance on insurance documentation and reasoning.

- Evaluate AI-generated outputs, correct mislabeled data, and grade agent performance against expert standards.
- Navigate complex industry situations like manuscript wordings, follow-form excess, and schedule-of-underlying disputes.
- Collaborate with the team to establish scoring criteria and review workflows for data extraction and coverage accuracy.
- Translate insurance practices into product requirements by advising on how coverage should be interpreted.
- Act as a bridge between documents and engineers by explaining terminology, market conventions, and reasoning.
- Review real policies and claims documents to supply correct answers for measuring and improving AI performance.
Requirements
- Reside in the United States.
- Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience, with 5 or more years strongly preferred in excess and specialty insurance.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience in specialty insurance fields such as underwriting, claims, broking, or coverage counsel.
- Examine a policy end-to-end to explain how coverage responds across primary and excess layers.
- Articulate clear reasoning for what is considered correct to help encode logic into an AI system.
- Communicate effectively with non-insurance experts and collaborate with engineers.
Qualifications
- Experience working as or closely alongside claim adjusters, examiners, complex or litigated claims specialists, or claims counsel.
