Lively is a remote-first benefits solutions provider that focuses on user-centric design and innovative technology to create effortless experiences for companies, consumers, and financial institutions. The company is hiring a Sr. Software Engineer (Backend) for a remote position based in Portugal.
In this role, you will help build out and improve financial and investment products as the user base expands. The engineering team utilizes modern web technologies including React, Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Amazon Lambdas, and Kinesis. While you will contribute across various parts of the stack from user interfaces to APIs and infrastructure, the primary focus for this position will be on backend development. You will collaborate closely with team members located in the United States.

Responsibilities
- Analyze product requirements and share feedback
- Develop clean, maintainable features and functionality
- Write automated unit tests and perform functional testing to ensure software quality

Requirements
- 5 or more years of professional experience at a technology company in software development or a related role
- Fluency in written and spoken English with strong communication skills
- Proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js
- Strong understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including the ability to design intuitive and scalable schemas
- Demonstrated history of strong product delivery and building highly available, scalable backend services
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent credential
- Strong knowledge of software design principles and familiarity with design patterns
- Experience working within Agile and Scrum development methodologies
- Debugging capability across multiple areas of the technology stack
