Job Description
NV5 is seeking a Sr. Structural Engineer - Substation to join the company's growing Power & Utilities Group on a remote, full-time basis. NV5 provides technology-enabled engineering, consulting, and geospatial solutions to help clients plan, design, and optimize infrastructure, buildings, utilities, and environmental systems.
This position acts as the responsible engineer and client point of contact for substation power delivery projects. The person in this role will take full ownership of physical substation assignments, manage construction-related tasks and questions, communicate directly with clients, and participate in marketing and promotion efforts to acquire new regional clients. Future responsibilities may include project, client, or personnel management opportunities. The role is well-suited for an ambitious and talented engineer looking to collaborate with experienced professionals, mentor junior staff, and contribute to innovative solutions in power delivery.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the responsible engineer and primary client point of contact for substation power delivery projects
- Engage in marketing and promotional activities to secure new regional clients
- Prepare, review, and apply professional engineering seals to technical calculation reports and construction documents
- Train and mentor junior staff members while sharing knowledge with peer engineers
- Travel to client locations when necessary
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program
- Bring at least seven years of progressive structural design engineering experience focused on substation or transmission line projects
- Possess hands-on experience using RISA, MathCAD, or the PLS software suite
- Hold a valid Professional Engineering license
Qualifications
- Possess a Master of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- Bring additional structural design background in bridges or building design
- Demonstrate strong prior experience in physical substation design
