Miva, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team and report directly to the Controller. Since 1996, Miva has provided ecommerce software solutions for online merchants, supporting over $100 billion in sales to date and recently launching Vexture, an AI-powered search tool. This fully remote position is open to individuals residing in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, KS, MA, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, or WA.
This role is well-suited for an independent accounting professional with experience handling general ledger activities, month-end closes, and cross-system reconciliations. The staff member will manage accounts payable, corporate credit card activity, and bank feed reviews while assisting the Controller with audit preparation, tax filing support, and sales tax obligations.
Responsibilities
- Handle day-to-day transaction accounting in the general ledger including accounts payable, vendor invoice coding, payment run preparation, and W-9 and 1099 maintenance
- Manage and code corporate card and expense activities across Ramp and other programs, follow up on missing receipts, and complete monthly statement reconciliations
- Review daily bank feed activity in QuickBooks Online and prepare monthly bank reconciliations for operating and sweep accounts
- Reconcile accounts receivable and undeposited funds between Maxio and QuickBooks Online while working with the billing team to resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and post month-end close entries, maintain prepaid and fixed asset schedules, record accruals, and complete assigned close checklist tasks
- Support the Controller with sales tax obligations, nexus tracking, and Avalara general ledger reconciliations
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and assist with audit and tax filing support
Requirements
- 3+ years of accounting experience involving month-end close responsibilities
- Working knowledge of accrual accounting under GAAP
- Hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online or a comparable general ledger system
- Intermediate Excel skills including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation schedules
- Experience reconciling data across multiple systems such as billing platforms, expense tools, and general ledgers
- Some exposure to sales tax basics
- Ability to meet close deadlines and work independently in a remote environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience utilizing AI tools such as Claude in accounting work with an interest in automating recurring processes
- Familiarity with subscription billing and revenue recognition platforms like Maxio, Chargebee, Zuora, or Recurly
- Experience using Ramp or similar corporate card and expense management platforms
- Exposure to SaaS or ecommerce accounting, including subscription revenue recognition under ASC 606
- Background working on a lean finance team reporting directly to a Controller or CFO
