Nextiva is searching for a Staff AI Engineer specializing in Agentic AI to help develop an internal AI platform that transforms how the entire organization and its engineering teams operate. This hands-on individual contributor position sits at the crossroads of platform engineering, backend systems, cloud infrastructure, developer productivity, and artificial intelligence. The person chosen for this role will design, build, and run production-grade agentic workflows across the software development lifecycle, driving intelligent automation to improve business and engineering processes.
This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced software professional who views artificial intelligence as a practical tool for achieving business outcomes rather than just a trend. Candidates will take solutions from initial concept through deployment, security, observability, and scale, while providing technical leadership across teams. While open to remote candidates across India, individuals based near the Bengaluru office at Wilshire III by MFAR are expected to work from the office four days per week, with potential increases to five days to support team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, deploy, and operate production-grade AI systems and agentic workflows across the software development lifecycle and business processes.
- Design scalable internal platform capabilities allowing teams to safely and efficiently adopt AI automation.
- Manage solutions end-to-end through problem definition, architecture, implementation, deployment, security, scalability, and ongoing operations.
- Integrate AI models and agents with developer tooling, internal platforms, enterprise systems, APIs, and data sources.
- Apply software engineering principles like modular design, testing, reliability, and maintainability to AI systems.
- Design methods for AI evaluation, quality measurement, and observability in production environments.
- Build cloud-native architectures and infrastructure using GCP and/or AWS for secure production workloads.
- Partner with DevOps, infrastructure, security, and engineering teams to establish technical standards and guardrails.
- Evaluate emerging AI models, agent architectures, and developer technologies to create value.
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership through architecture reviews and design decisions.
Requirements
- Ten or more years of professional software engineering experience with complex production-scale systems.
- Hands-on background designing and building generative AI or AI/ML solutions that reached production or delivered business outcomes.
- Strong software architecture and system design skills for distributed or large-scale systems.
- Proficiency in programming fundamentals using production languages such as Java, Python, or Go.
- Hands-on experience working with large language models, generative AI, and AI agents beyond basic productivity tools.
- Experience taking AI solutions from prototypes to deployment, operationalization, monitoring, and scale.
- Deep hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native production systems on GCP and/or AWS.
- Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, and production operations.
- Comprehension of application, data, infrastructure, and AI security considerations.
- Understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle and developer workflows in large codebases.
Qualifications
- Experience designing agentic AI systems, multi-step workflows, or autonomous engineering workflows.
- Background applying AI to developer productivity, code generation, testing, code review, or incident management.
- Experience building internal developer platforms, engineering productivity platforms, or enterprise automation.
- Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks, agent observability, context management, and retrieval architectures.
- Combined background spanning traditional backend or distributed-systems engineering and hands-on AI engineering.
- Experience driving technical initiatives spanning multiple teams or organizational domains.
