Reddit is hiring a Staff Android Engineer for its Android Platform team, which sets technical direction for the Android app used by millions of people every day. Responsibilities
- Make technical calls that carry the Android platform toward the next 100 million-plus users while balancing lasting platform health against product delivery
- Shape developer experience strategy so builds, tests and releases move faster and safer for every team
- Design client health and observability foundations, including events, traces and dashboards, so teams can protect performance and reliability
- Champion AI-assisted developer and agent workflows
- Guide senior engineers through architecture reviews, documentation and advice, raising engineering standards across teams
Requirements
- Five-plus years of software work, three of them building Android apps, including leading complex Android projects from scoping through rollout and long-term adoption
- Prior work defining direction for, and shipping, shared platform features in a sizeable Android code base that several groups depend on
- Strong command of Kotlin, the Android lifecycle, concurrency, Jetpack Compose and coroutines, plus judgment on architecture tradeoffs and migration paths
- Background in platform or infrastructure work such as shared libraries, experiments and logging, navigation, startup orchestration, or networking and caching
- Analytical, hands-on approach to hard problems, with measurable gains in reliability, performance or developer productivity
- Builds consensus among peers in other functions such as product and data, relying on influence rather than title
- Hands-on use of AI tools to speed up coding tasks such as generating code, refactoring, static analysis or CI verification, with proven value
