Job Description

Moxie operates globally as a remote-first organization supporting independent aesthetic entrepreneurs nationwide by providing tools and infrastructure to run profitable practices without burnout or guesswork. The company is currently hiring a Staff Data Engineer to take complete ownership of its data infrastructure, encompassing the entire lifecycle from pipelines to the modeling layer.

In this role, the selected professional will collaborate directly with Engineering on production schema changes transitioning from Postgres to Snowflake, partner with Finance to structure accounting logic, and ensure core business data remains accessible for internal teams and client practices. Key early objectives include ensuring published metrics are defensible, taking charge of orchestration and dbt layers, delivering high-impact projects such as historical EMR data modeling or accrual accounting structures, establishing standard operating procedures, and optimizing the data stack for efficiency and cost.

This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced individual contributor who views data as a primary driver of business outcomes rather than a ticketing service. The position offers high visibility, direct collaboration with the C-suite, and the chance to shape engineering conventions on a compact, ambitious team utilizing a modern technology stack that includes Snowflake, dbt, Omni, Airbyte, Prefect, and GitHub.

Responsibilities

  • Own Moxie data infrastructure end to end, covering pipelines, the data warehouse, and the modeling layer
  • Partner with Engineering on production schema changes moving from Postgres to Snowflake
  • Collaborate with Finance to model accounting logic and financial reporting structures
  • Maintain and evolve dbt models including financial reporting logic for cash versus accrual basis and incentive calculations
  • Take over the Prefect and Snowflake Openflow orchestration layer alongside the observability platform
  • Scope and ship either an accrual basis accounting data model or historical EMR data modeling within the first quarter
  • Establish standard operating procedures and key performance indicators for monthly Vanta security reviews, schema change executions, and failure triage workflows
  • Optimize data stack performance and cost while building pipelines and models that transition Practice Intelligence toward predictive and prescriptive capabilities

Requirements

  • Possess five to ten years of data engineering experience, including at least one tenure as an early data hire scaling a system from basic functionality to business-critical operations
  • Demonstrate advanced dbt and SQL modeling proficiency applied to business logic, including financial concepts such as cash and accrual accounting, revenue definitions, and incentive logic
  • Exhibit strong Python and software engineering fundamentals capable of managing production pipelines on tools like Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster
  • Show a documented history of leading end-to-end delivery by gathering requirements, scoping work, making architectural decisions, and shipping solutions
  • Maintain an ownership mindset regarding system uptime, reliability, service level agreements, runbooks, and cost optimization
  • Demonstrate fluency with daily AI tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, or n8n and hold a reasoned perspective on LLM implementation within data stacks
