Shakepay is seeking a Staff Data Scientist, Growth to join a cross-functional product squad on a remote basis. Operating as a regulated investment dealer backed by $44M in funding, the company provides financial products to over 1.5 million Canadians to help them build long-term wealth through bitcoin. In this position, the professional will operate with high autonomy in a fast-moving environment to analyze user behavior, develop models, and drive business growth.
This role suits an experienced data scientist who excels at turning ambiguous challenges into measurable results through statistical rigor, experimentation, and product thinking. The selected candidate will partner closely with product engineering, design, marketing, finance, and operations to optimize user acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization.
The base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $250,000 CAD, supplemented by stock options, annual performance-based salary reviews, health and dental coverage, a $2,000 annual training budget, 20 days of paid vacation with a utilization bonus, and parental leave top-ups.
Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering and design teams to enhance user acquisition, activation, retention, monetization, and overall customer experience
- Collaborate with marketing, finance, and operations departments to uncover growth paths and guide business decisions
- Establish and champion decision frameworks and experimentation methods for rapid and confident iteration
- Determine key performance indicators and success metrics to keep teams aligned on measurable goals
- Apply statistical methods, causal inference, forecasting, and machine learning to analyze user actions and financial outcomes
- Examine customer journeys, conversion funnels, and lifecycle behavior to proactively spot high-leverage opportunities
- Contribute data-driven perspectives on trade-offs, return on investment, and impact to help shape squad and company strategies
- Create dashboards, predictive models, and self-serve utilities to increase visibility into business performance
- Work alongside the wider data organization to maintain a unified data layer for internal stakeholders
- Promote a culture focused on evidence-based decision making and curiosity throughout the enterprise
Requirements
- Possess at least 8 years of professional background in data science, experimentation, growth analytics, or related fields within high-growth settings
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python and SQL
- Show a deep comprehension of statistical analysis, experimentation, causal inference, forecasting, and KPI design
- Bring robust product and business intuition capable of linking user behavior to company results
- Demonstrate experience collaborating cross-functional with product, marketing, finance, or operations groups
- Operate autonomously while steering ambiguous initiatives from conception to delivery
- Exhibit strong communication abilities to influence stakeholders through data and clear reasoning
- Manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail
Qualifications
- Background in high-growth consumer companies or startup environments
- Familiarity with product analytics and experimentation tools such as Amplitude, Statsig, and Posthog
- Practical work history utilizing modern data stacks, Snowflake, and dbt
- Experience dealing with growth modeling, customer segmentation, or lifecycle marketing
- Prior status as a Shakepay customer or familiarity with the company platform
- Genuine interest and enthusiasm regarding bitcoin and non-sovereign monetary systems
