Job Description
CloudLinux operates as a global remote-first organization delivering high-volume, low-cost Linux infrastructure and security products. The company is currently hiring a Staff Engineer to join the engineering team working on Imunify360, a comprehensive multi-layer security suite deployed on hundreds of thousands of hosting servers. This individual contributor position focuses on high-impact, cross-squad technical challenges rather than direct people management. Approximately 30 to 50 percent of the workday involves writing production code.
The role suits an experienced engineer who can bridge individual squad efforts and maintain technical alignment across the entire product. Responsibilities include defining end-to-end architecture, setting engineering standards, managing technical risks, and steering critical initiatives such as agent resource optimization, detection pipeline quality, and upgrade safety. The candidate will work closely with squad leads, mentor senior staff, and lead incident responses for complex issues. Familiarity with Linux internals, distributed systems, and agent-based software deployed on customer machines is central to the position.

- Maintain a risk and technical debt register covering security, compliance, and uptime
- Optimize agent resource footprints including CPU, memory, and I/O budgets on dense shared hosts
- Oversee detection pipeline quality, rollout strategies, and staged releases
- Establish engineering standards for design reviews, code testing, observability, and secure software development lifecycles
- Lead or co-lead severe incident investigations when root causes span multiple squads
- Mentor senior engineers and act as a technical evaluator during hiring processes
Requirements
- Have at least ten years of experience in building and operating production software
- Possess a minimum of three years working in a Staff, Principal, or Tech Lead capacity across multiple teams
- Demonstrate strong production expertise in Python alongside Go or Rust
- Show deep knowledge of Linux internals such as filesystems, networking, processes, and kernel interfaces
- Bring a track record of designing and scaling distributed systems including async backends, queues, and caches
- Understand the maintenance of software deployed directly onto customer machines
- Apply a robust security mindset including threat modeling and secure coding practices
Qualifications
- Background in server security covering antivirus, malware detection, web application firewalls, or patch management
- Familiarity with WordPress and Node.JS web application hosting at scale
- Experience applying machine learning in production for classification and detection tasks
- Knowledge of large-scale observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, or ClickHouse
- Competence in CI/CD pipeline ownership using GitLab CI or Jenkins for multi-distro packaging
- Past open-source contributions related to systems tooling or security
