Job Description

Role overview. Grafana Labs is recruiting a full-time Staff Frontend Engineer for the DataViz squad within its Grafana Frontend group. The role is remote and open to candidates in the United States and Canada on EST or CST time. The squad builds and evolves Grafana's visualizations so that users can set charts up easily and pull useful insights from their data.

Current work. Projects named in the posting include making the core visualization independently releasable, GraphViz for drawing relationships and flows with live metrics from any data source, stronger test coverage with visual regression tooling, and a refresh of existing visualizations such as Table and Gauge. The stack is mainly TypeScript and React, with uPlot and eCharts for charts. The squad's work is open source in the grafana/grafana repository.

Scope. The engineer takes multi-quarter projects from defining the problem to shipping, gathering user feedback and checking whether the result worked. The role includes coaching engineers, reviewing code and design, joining on-call and incident response, supporting customer escalations, and presenting the squad's roadmap and designs to other teams.

Who it suits. The posting looks for a technical leader who communicates clearly in an asynchronous, fully remote setting, takes responsibility for operating what they build, and works in short feedback loops. Practical familiarity with AI tools, and an interest in observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki and Tempo, are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Run multi-quarter technical projects end to end, from problem definition to launch and measurement
  • Coach engineers and lift standards through code reviews, design critiques and pairing on tough problems
  • Join on-call duty and help run incident response plus follow-up reviews
  • Provide technical support for customer escalations and flag areas of high friction
  • Draft design proposals, present demos and argue for the squad's plans in cross-team meetings

Requirements

  • Proven ability to lead teams through projects and multiply other engineers' impact
  • Strong written communication for remote, asynchronous collaboration
  • Experience being on-call and supporting production software
  • Ability to take on complex solutions with minimal supervision
  • Customer focus and a habit of splitting problems into short analyze, design, deliver and learn cycles
  • Practical familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks

Qualifications

  • Open-source contributions or maintainer experience, and ease working with a public community
  • Interest in observability and experience with Grafana, Prometheus or similar platforms
  • Past on-call experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki or Tempo, including personal lab setups
  • Time spent in a distributed, worldwide remote team
