Job Description

Stack AV builds AI and autonomous systems intended to make trucking safer, more dependable and more efficient. The Hardware Engineering group designs, builds and tests complete autonomous vehicles, covering both the base vehicle and the modules that make up the automated driving system. The company points to decades of experience deploying real systems in harsh settings.

This is a full-time Staff Hardware Engineer post centered on EDS and wiring harness architecture. The engineer would be accountable for EDS and harness architecture on autonomous vehicle platforms, including power routing, grounding, circuit protection, signal quality and network links. The work moves from schematic definition and 3D packaging through release, assembly, validation and post-launch support. Day to day, the engineer releases schematics, harness drawings and parts lists, runs wire sizing and voltage-drop calculations, chairs design reviews and change control, and writes test plans for continuity, insulation, network behavior, EMI/EMC, environmental conditions and whole-vehicle testing.

The ideal candidate is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with regular presence at the New Stanton, Pennsylvania site. Remote arrangements are considered case by case. Occasional travel to factories, suppliers and partners is included. Applicants need a bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering or a related discipline and at least five years of relevant experience, or eight-plus years for Staff-level scope. Background in taking harnesses from requirements through production, along with knowledge of CAN, LIN, automotive Ethernet, J1939, ISO 26262 and IATF 16949, is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Own EDS and harness architecture covering power, grounding, protection and signal integrity
  • Draft and publish wiring diagrams, pinouts, harness drawings, BOMs and installation guides
  • Run analyses on conductor gauge, voltage drop, current capacity, fuses, relays and grounding
  • Work alongside systems, electrical, mechanical, firmware and manufacturing teams plus suppliers to fix integration problems
  • Lead design reviews, interface definitions, change control and configuration control
  • Author and carry out verification plans for harnesses, covering EMI/EMC and vehicle-level tests

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in an electrical, computer or automotive engineering discipline, or a closely related field
  • Five-plus years in power distribution or cabling work across automotive, truck, aviation, robotics or industrial equipment (8+ for Staff level)
  • Record of carrying harnesses from architecture through release, prototyping, validation and production
  • Deep knowledge of EDS design: protection, sizing, grounding, connectors, shielding and routing
  • Skilled with schematic and harness software including Capital, CATIA, Siemens NX, Zuken or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical writing and data-based problem solving

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Working grasp of CAN bus variants, LIN, automotive Ethernet, J1939 and vehicle diagnostics
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC rules, USCAR and SAE guidance, and the ISO 26262 and IATF 16949 quality standards
  • Background in DFM/DFA, APQP/PPAP, FMEA and setting up engineering procedures from scratch at a startup
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE/AIAG or Six Sigma credential
