ODG by MCG seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join a remote team on a full-time basis. Operating as a senior individual contributor, this role focuses on creating and scaling machine learning infrastructure, model evaluation capabilities, automated prompt tuning, and feedback loops.
This position suits a technical expert who can independently translate ambiguous clinical AI objectives into reliable software solutions. The selected engineer will collaborate directly with product managers, software developers, data scientists, and clinical professionals while offering mentorship and establishing engineering best practices across teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and build machine learning engineering tooling to support automated prompt tuning, content feedback loops, and model benchmarking
- Construct scalable evaluation and experimentation infrastructure for rapid comparison of models and prompts
- Partner alongside data science, clinical prompt engineering, product, and software development groups to deliver technical solutions
- Define technical approaches, methodologies, and implementation plans for ambiguous AI requirements
- Investigate complex machine learning engineering challenges and build practical solutions
- Establish reusable engineering patterns, standards, and best practices
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering and cross-functional colleagues without direct management duties
Requirements
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, data science engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Experience designing and implementing production-quality machine learning systems, infrastructure, or tooling
- Familiarity with Python and modern software engineering practices
- Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical problems within an ambiguous space
- Experience collaborating with product, engineering, or data science teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience developing automated prompt optimization or evaluation systems
- Background building model benchmarking frameworks or evaluation infrastructure for large language models
- Experience creating feedback loops that integrate human or expert evaluation into machine learning systems
- Familiarity with model observability, experimentation platforms, or MLOps
- History of developing reusable engineering frameworks or standards adopted across multiple teams
- Strong technical communication and collaboration skills
