JumpCloud is seeking a Staff Quality Engineer for its engineering team in India. The company offers an AI-powered unified IT management platform designed to secure the modern workforce by consolidating identity, device, and access management. In this role, you will act as a strategic anchor and primary quality coordinator for a core product pillar, serving as an internal product manager for quality.
You will collaborate closely with engineering directors and product managers to align quality initiatives with pillar OKRs, drive test strategy, and ensure developer accountability for automation. Responsibilities involve engaging early in the software development lifecycle, reviewing design documents, architecting non-functional testing strategies for performance and scale, and championing AI adoption within the testing process. The ideal candidate is a technical authority and proactive risk mitigator who balances release velocity with enterprise-level excellence.
This position requires participation in on-call shifts, requiring you to be ready to respond during assigned hours. JumpCloud operates as a remote-first organization, and applicants must be located and authorized to work in India. The interview process and internal operations are conducted in English.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary quality coordinator and technical authority for a core product pillar's test processes and standards
- Engage early in the SDLC through refinement, planning, and design reviews to challenge teams on testability and integration risks
- Review and influence pillar OKRs related to engineering velocity and reliability
- Identify weak spots, automation blockers, and resource gaps, escalating them to leadership
- Represent the pillar in the Cross-Module Leadership Team to align on standardized test plans and tooling
- Architect and lead non-functional testing strategies, emphasizing performance, load, and scale testing
- Champion AI adoption in the testing lifecycle for script generation, failure triage, and pipeline optimization
- Contribute test code, audit unit and integration tests for coverage gaps, and write complex end-to-end automation scripts
- Establish and enforce best practices for unit and functional testing frameworks
- Participate in scheduled on-call shifts to respond to alerts
Requirements
- Possess 8 to 12 or more years of experience in quality engineering, software development in test, or a related field
- Demonstrate a proven track record of leading quality initiatives across multiple teams
- Have deep expertise in multiple technical disciplines, programming languages, test tools, and automation frameworks, with a preference for Python, Pytest, Playwright, and Typescript
- Show proven experience defining and executing performance, scale, and load testing strategies for complex distributed systems
- Be located in and authorized to work in India
- Be able to speak and write in English fluently
Qualifications
- Practical experience leveraging Generative AI or LLMs in the software testing lifecycle
- Experience contributing to AI-driven test frameworks and internal AI tooling
- Deep domain expertise relevant to the product pillar
- Experience driving large-scale organizational transformations or shifts in quality methodologies
- Prior background working in dynamic, fast-paced startup environments
- Familiarity with API and web app UI test automation tools such as Gherkin or Cypress
- Experience deploying, installing, and configuring applications on cloud-based servers, with AWS experience noted as a plus
