Job Description
Beyond Finance is currently hiring a remote Staff Security Engineer to join their team full-time. The company focuses on customized financial solutions and compliance-driven support to help everyday clients manage and overcome debt. In this position, you will collaborate closely with software engineering, product, and DevOps teams to integrate robust security measures into architecture and processes during all stages of design and deployment.
This is a hands-on technical role that requires deep expertise in at least one key domain—such as cloud security, application security, or security automation—alongside working knowledge in the remaining areas. Successful candidates operate independently to drive projects forward, prioritize practical risk reduction over bureaucratic gates, and treat application code, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure as a unified system. You will help manage AppSec tooling, build internal Python automation, triage vulnerabilities, and guide secure design for both mobile and web applications.
The position is suited for a proactive professional who can tackle ambiguous problems independently, influence architectural choices, and deliver security guardrails without constant oversight. The salary range for this role is between $160,000 and $195,000 per year, and the position is eligible for an annual bonus alongside various employee benefits.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and DevOps groups across various projects to provide security feedback at any development phase
- Direct secure design principles and conduct code reviews for mobile and web software applications
- Oversee core application security tools such as SAST, DAST, SCA, ASM, secret scanning, and mobile security utilities
- Triage and remediate application-level vulnerabilities alongside engineering staff
- Contribute to cloud security posture maintenance across AWS infrastructure covering IAM, secrets, network segmentation, container security, and data exposure using CNAPP and native tools
- Support cloud and application vulnerability management while tuning WAF rules
- Develop internal tools and automation using Python to decrease manual tasks for the security team
- Contribute to SIEM detections, security log pipelines, and endpoint security controls
- Embed security checks like secrets detection and scanning into CI/CD pipelines alongside DevOps
- Formulate secure development standards, enablement materials, and playbooks for engineering teams
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of hands-on security engineering experience
- Demonstrated depth in application security, cloud security, or security automation and tooling, with working knowledge of the other two areas
- Working knowledge of threat modeling
- Ability to operate independently and drive projects forward without day-to-day supervision
Qualifications
- Advanced expertise in multiple security domains including application security, cloud security, or security automation
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform
- Background in offensive security or red teaming
- Previous exposure to PCI-regulated or financial services environments
- Mobile application security background
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning security concepts such as prompt injection, model abuse, data poisoning, and corresponding mitigations
- Experience managing human and non-human identity security
- Development fluency in programming languages like Python, Ruby on Rails, or Go
