The organization is currently seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join its team on a fully remote basis. In this role, you will guide technical direction and tackle complex problems in digital accessibility by designing scalable, reliable systems that identify, fix, and prevent issues on millions of websites using artificial intelligence and agentic development workflows.
This position involves a blend of system architecture, hands-on software development, and technical leadership. You will collaborate closely with product and design departments to build high-impact solutions, while also evaluating new AI development tools and coaching team members on practical AI-assisted practices. Responsibilities
- Lead engineering teams through system design, implementation, needs assessment, and operational automation
- Shape the technical roadmap to balance rapid delivery with long-term platform sustainability
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering colleagues to build secure, reliable systems
- Design web-scale architectures utilizing service-oriented principles, performance optimization, and data modeling
- Utilize AI coding assistants and agentic workflows daily for software creation, testing, and operation
- Evaluate emerging AI development technologies and adopt tools that enhance delivery quality
- Mentor engineers on technical requirements, system design, and responsible AI usage
- Establish and define team standards for AI incorporation during code reviews, security checks, and testing
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of professional software engineering experience covering system design, implementation, and operation
- Demonstrated background in cross-functional collaboration and making high-level architectural tradeoffs
- Proficiency in modern JavaScript and TypeScript, including Node.js and React
- Experience working with relational, NoSQL, and document or object storage solutions
- Proven ability to solve complex problems in distributed systems and real-time data technologies
- Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted and agentic software development workflows
