Dune is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Market Data to join their team in a fully remote environment. Dune operates as a blockchain data and intelligence provider, delivering structured datasets from over 130 blockchains to major institutions and industry leaders globally. The engineering team is developing advanced market data solutions designed for institutional clients who require dependable, precise, and timely financial information. In this role, the selected candidate will help build and evolve a brand-new market data platform, creating distributed systems for the ingestion, normalization, storage, and delivery of realtime financial information derived from blockchain and alternative sources.
This is a hands-on position well-suited for an experienced engineer who excels at transforming ambiguous technical needs into clear, scalable designs and working production services. The engineer will construct reliable streaming solutions that handle event ordering, timestamps, duplication, gaps, data recovery, and blockchain reorganizations. Responsibilities also include developing robust client APIs and feeds, collaborating across internal teams on reference data and historical capture, defining service objectives, and utilizing AI-assisted development tools throughout the design, implementation, and testing phases. The ideal person possesses strong backend engineering skills and computer science fundamentals, and is comfortable guiding and mentoring other engineers while independently debugging complex distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and build distributed systems for ingestion, normalization, processing, storage, and delivery of realtime market data
- Build and operate streaming solutions handling event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, gaps, and recovery
- Construct reliable client feeds and APIs featuring clear delivery contracts, schema evolution, and access controls
- Partner with teams across the organization on reference data models and historical data capture
- Define service objectives, data quality measures, and instrument latency, freshness, completeness, and correctness
- Conduct independent debugging, drive root cause analysis to a fix, and participate in the on-call rotation
- Leverage AI throughout development for exploring designs, implementing changes, writing tests, and investigating failures
- Lead technical decisions, write clear design documents, and mentor engineers through implementation and code reviews
Requirements
- Build and operate distributed backend or data services with strict reliability and performance requirements
- Work with realtime streaming systems including concurrency, state management, backpressure, and recovery
- Translate ambiguous requirements into pragmatic designs and production services
- Communicate clearly in writing and collaborate effectively within a distributed team
Qualifications
- Experience working with Rust, Go, or comparable programming languages
- Background in financial or market data at a financial institution
- Onchain data experience involving blockchain indexing such as EVM or Solana
- Reference data experience with instrument and entity masters, identifier mapping, effective-dated records, or tokenized asset and fund data
- Past experience at a company where data functions as the product
