Job Description
AeroVect is seeking a remote Staff Software Engineer to focus on Motion Planning for autonomous ground handling solutions used by major airlines and ground service providers. Backed by top-tier venture capital, the Series A company builds autonomous technology for structured, low-speed airport airside environments.
This position acts as the technical foundation for the planning stack, encompassing the design and creation of production-grade mission, behavior, and motion planning software. The selected engineer will handle trajectory optimization, real-time constraint optimization, and decision-making under uncertainty while collaborating with localization, controls, perception, and systems engineering teams.
The role reports directly to the Planning Tech Lead and provides an opportunity to influence a robotics-as-a-service enterprise product. Ideal candidates are experienced technical engineers with a strong background in autonomous systems development, capable of driving ambiguous technical challenges toward structured architectures.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and iterate on mission, behavior, and motion planners for autonomous ground support equipment in airport airside environments
- Drive major technical decisions across the planning stack, including algorithm selection, interface definition, and architectural establishment
- Prototype and evaluate new planning strategies such as optimization-based methods, search-based planners, and learning-augmented pipelines for production
- Partner cross-functionally with perception, controls, localization, and systems engineering teams to deliver an integrated autonomous driving system
- Promote software development best practices, functional safety, and systems engineering standards within the planning domain
- Mentor fellow engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and design discussions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field
- Extensive practical experience designing and implementing planning modules for autonomous systems deployed in real-world operations or shipped to production
- Strong proficiency in C++ or Python, accompanied by experience with Linux-based operating systems
- Demonstrated capability to take ambiguous technical problems and independently drive them to well-architected solutions
- Excellent communication skills, proactiveness, and a strong sense of ownership
Qualifications
- Master of Science or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field
- Mastery of Modern C++ (14 and beyond) and safety-critical coding practices including MISRA and ISO 26262
- Five or more years of professional industry experience in planning for robotic ground vehicles
- In-depth understanding of DDS frameworks such as ROS or ROS2, or other networking middleware
- Experience working in startup environments with adaptability to rapidly changing priorities
