Consensys is seeking a remote Staff Software Engineer to focus on Perpetuals for MetaMask, a widely used self-custodial financial platform operating globally. In this position, you will establish the technical direction and architecture for trading features across mobile and extension interfaces, addressing complex challenges such as high-frequency state updates, order execution, margin handling, and real-time data streaming. This role suits an experienced engineer who excels at cross-team collaboration, technical mentorship, and designing resilience into correctness-critical financial systems.
As part of a distributed, remote-first team, you will collaborate closely with product management, design, and protocol integration groups to deliver multi-team initiatives. The position requires navigating intricate technical hurdles, evaluating build-versus-buy trade-offs, and maintaining high standards for precision, security, and performance. Please note that individuals based in France, Italy, or Germany are not eligible for consideration.
Responsibilities
- Manage technical architecture and roadmaps for MetaMask Perpetuals on mobile and extension platforms
- Establish engineering direction for trading-critical features including precision handling and high-frequency state consistency
- Drive technical alignment across multiple backend, protocol, and experience teams
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and architectural trade-offs ahead of time
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager on feature prioritization and technical planning
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and documentation
- Represent Perpetuals engineering in cross-functional planning sessions with product and design leads
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional experience with web and mobile technologies
- Background in building trading, financial, or correctness-critical systems involving financial risk
- Experience implementing real-time data systems and resilient user interfaces for unstable network environments
- Demonstrated Staff-level track record of leading technical initiatives spanning multiple codebases or teams
- Hands-on development experience utilizing React and React Native
- Extensive background working with modern JavaScript including ES6 and TypeScript
- Familiarity with blockchain fundamentals across multiple architectures
- Understanding of cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility principles
- Experience developing medium to large-scale full-stack applications with an emphasis on testing and coding standards
- Background in consuming and building APIs
- Understanding of Continuous Integration practices
- Knowledge of security vulnerabilities related to financial products and standard web security threats
Qualifications
- Direct experience integrating with derivatives or perpetuals protocols or building trading infrastructure
- Familiarity with cross-chain bridges, interoperability solutions, and transaction lifecycles
- Prior experience in Web3 and decentralized distributed teams
- Product knowledge regarding the Web3 wallet ecosystem
- Mobile development background with React Native, Swift, or Objective-C
